Putting into Operation
1.1 Overview
A switcher of the R&S UPZ family can combine or distribute audio signals. Each
R&S UPZ thus extends an Audio Analyzer to eight additional input or output channels.
The R&S UPZ is available as
input
or
output
switcher.
An
input
switcher allows the user to switch up to eight different DUTs (

An
output
switcher can distribute the generator channels delivered by an Audio
Analyzer to up to eight DUTs (

shows the basic circuit diagram, the signal direction from top to bottom
representing an
input
switcher and from bottom to top an
output
switcher (the 600
resistors are contained only in the output switcher and provide a defined source
impedance to a connected DUT when the output channel is not activated).

It is not possible to switch the same channel simultaneously to the two busbars neither
with the input nor the output switcher.
Thus, the
input switcher
prevents a connected generator from suddenly being subject
to double load, which might result in unexpected level variations or poor data,
especially when low-impedance loads are connected.
In the
output switcher
, this measure prevents two generator outputs from working
against each other and being short-circuited in the case of very low internal
resistances. This is particularly important with outputs that are not short-circuit-proof.
