Auto Park Brake
The Auto Park Brake is applied automatically whenever
the vehicle speed is below 1.25 mph (2 km/h) and the
ignition is in the STOP/OFF position.
The Auto Park Brake application can be temporarily by-
passed by pushing the EPB switch to the release position
while turning the ignition off. This is required when
towing the vehicle. The system will be restored to auto-
matic operation upon the next ignition cycle, or by manu-
ally applying the park brake switch.
SafeHold
SafeHold is a safety feature of the EPB system that will
engage the park brake automatically if the vehicle is left
unsecured while the ignition switch is in MAR/RUN.
The EPB will automatically engage if all of the following
conditions are met:
•
Vehicle speed is below 1.25 mph (2 km/h).
•
The driver leaves the driver’s seat or the driver’s swivel
seat (if so equipped) is unlocked .
SafeHold can be temporarily bypassed by pushing the EPB
Switch to EPB release position and simultaneously leaving
or unlocking driver’s seat (if so equipped). Once manually
bypassed, SafeHold will be enabled again once the vehicle
reaches 12 mph (20 km/h) or the ignition is turned to the
OFF position and back to ON again.
Refer to “Instrument Cluster Display” in the “Getting To
Know Your Instrument Panel” for further information.
Loss Of Electric Power
If electric power is not available and the EPB must be
released for towing the vehicle, the EPB can be mechanically
released by use of an Allen wrench. EPB mechanical release
should only be performed by qualified service personnel and
only when the vehicle is secured from rolling.
AUTOMATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION — DIESEL
ONLY
WARNING!
You or others could be injured if you leave the vehicle
unattended without fully applying the parking brake.
The parking brake should always be applied when the
driver is not in the vehicle.
