Tofirethefrontcoupler(ifyourenginehasone),quicklytaptheBellbuttononce
followedbyfourquicktapsoftheWhistlebutton,allowingapproximately½secondto
lapsebetweeneachquickbuttonpress. Thesoundoftheliftbarandairlinedepletionwill
play,andtheknucklewillbereleased.
M.T.H.enginesequippedwithProto-Sound2.0havespeedcontrolcapabilitiesthatallow
theenginetomaintainaconstantspeedupanddowngradesandaroundcurves,much
likeanautomobilecruisecontrol. Youcanaddordropcarsontherun,andtheengine
willmaintainthespeedyouset.
Whiletheengineisprogrammedtostartwiththespeedcontrolfeatureactivated,youcan
opttoturnitoff. Thismeanstheengine'sspeedwillfallasitlaborsupahillandincrease
asittravelsdownward. Itisalsoaffectedbytheadditionorreleasingofcarswhileonthe
run.Becausetheenginewillrunmoreslowlyatagiventhrottlevoltagewhenspeed
controlisonthanwhenitisoff,youshouldadjustthethrottletoalowerpowerlevelfor
operationwithspeedcontrolofftoavoidhigh-speedderailments. Whenspeedcontrolis
off,thevolumewilldroptoallowforbetterlowvoltageoperation.
p u t t h e engineinneutral,thenquicklytapthe
transformer'sWhistlebuttononetimethenquicklytaptheBellbuttontwotimes,
allowingapproximately½secondtolapsebetweeneachquickbuttonpress. Twohorn
blastswillindicatethattheenginehasmadethechange. Repeatthe1whistle,2bells
codetoreturnittotheothercondition. Youwillwanttodothisduringtheinitialneutral
uponstart-upifyouevercouplethisenginetoanotherenginethatisnotequippedwith
speedcontroltoavoiddamagingthemotorsineitherengine. Eachtimeyoushutdown
theenginecompletely,itwillautomaticall yturnspeedcontrolon.
Youcanlockyourengineintoadirection(forward,neutral,orreverse)sothatitwillnot
changedirections. Todothis,puttheengineintothedirectionyouwant(orintoneutral
tolockitintoneutral),runitataveryslowcrawl(asslowlyasitwillmovewithout
halting),andquicklybutfirmlytaptheWhistlebuttononcefollowedbythreequicktaps
oftheBellbutton,allowingapproximately½secondtolapsebetweeneachquickbutton
press.Twowhistleblastswillindicatethattheenginehasmadethechange. Theengine
willnotchangedirection(includinggoingintoneutral)untilyourepeatthe1whistle,3
bellscodetoreturntheenginetoitsnormalcondition,eveniftheengineiskeptwithout
powerforextendedperiodsoftime.
