Redundancy
Description
Parameter
Master or Backup
Only one master and one backup is allowed for the same VID and/or Virtual gateway
address within one LAN
Role:
1-255
Virtual Identifier
VID:
LAN1 or LAN2
LAN has to be set on the interface
Interface
an IP address
This IP address will be shared between the Master and the Backup
Virtual gateway
address
Standard virtual router redundancy protocol (VRRP) is used.
Two M!DGEs are sharing together one virtual IP address - first M!DGE router is serving as a Master
and the second one as a Backup. The Backup router is listening broadcast packets from the Master.
The Backup router starts using the virtual IP address after a 3 second break of service of the Master
router (e.g. disconnected cable, not working Master router). The IP address will go back to the Master
after restoring of its service. The virtual IP address is connected with MAC address 00:00:5E:00:01:XX.
The last byte of the address (XX) is the Virtual IDentifier (VID).
Different VID has to be set for each virtual pair of routers within one LAN.
Note
Be carefull with DHCP server used together with redundancy. If you use activated DHCP
server, you have to split the DHCP range between Master and Backup (e.g. 192.168.1.100-
150 on the master and 192.168.151-199 on the backup)
