1.2. CARLESSNESS CAUSES FIRE

Fire  safety  applies  particularly  to  wheelchair  padded  upholstery  constructions
which  meet  stringent  test  requirements  for  fire  retardancy.  Wherever  possible,
plastic  materials  generally  in  other  areas  such  as  tyres  and  trim  features  are
flame retardant where there is a risk to the occupant and the fire retardancy can
be achieved without affecting structural safety, or other clinical factors.

The  label  illustrated  below  is  attached  to  the  major  items  of  padded  and  filled
upholstery  on  all  R  Healthcare  wheelchairs.  R  Healthcare  are  continuously
looking at developments in upholstery materials suitable for wheelchairs with a
view  to  improving  occupant  comfort,  and  durability  in  use.  The  padded
upholstery used on R Healthcare chairs provides the best all round specification
for most environments.

The Standards referred to on the label attached to the wheelchair upholstery,
cover a range of materials and tests which include strength properties,
resilience and resistance to ignition and comply to ISO 7176-16 and furnishing
