Rules and regulations
The QWIC Performance RD10 Speed conforms with the
latest L1eB type approval. With this manual you have
received a certificate of conformity (COC).
Please keep this certificate of conformity (COC)
safe, you need this document to get a license
plate or insurance for example.
As the speed pedelec has been categorized as moped
in the EU, most member states apply the following
requirements:
Helmet obligation
Most member states of the European union, if not all,
have compulsory helmet wear for mopeds. However,
moped helmets are heavy and offer insufficient
ventilation to be comfortable for speed pedelec
users. For this reason some countries have issued
specific helmet rules. The Netherlands, for example,
have issued a new norm for a speed pedelec helmet.
Speed pedelec users are obliged to use a special speed
pedelec helmet that conforms NTA 8776.
Information about speed pedelecs
Information about speed pedelecs
This chapter is specifically intended for users
of the Performance RD10 Speed.
What is a speed pedelec?
‘Pedelec’ is a term that describes a bicycle with a motor
that only functions on condition the cyclist pedals.
Pedelecs with a speed limit of 25 km/h are categorized
as normal bicycles in the EU.
The Performance RD10 Speed is a so-called ‘speed
pedelec’ and has been specifically designed for higher
speeds up to 45 km/h. Speed pedelecs are categorized
as mopeds in the EU. In comparison to normal pedelecs
there are a few important regulations to consider
before taking the bike on the road. If you have any
questions after reading this chapter, please contact
your dealer for more information.
Although the EU strives for uniform legislation
in all member states, there are still quite
some subjects which are handled differently
in each country. Please consult the website of
your government to inform you on the local
legislation.
