Design and operation
3.5 PARKING BRAKE
The parking brake is used to immobilise
the trailer while parking. System design is
shown in Figure (3.8).
The brake crank mechanism (1), located
on the left side of the frame, is connected
by a steel cable (3) guided in rollers (6)
with the expander arm levers (2) of the
first axle.
By turning the crank of the mechanism
(1) (clockwise), the steel cable becomes
tense causing the brake expander lever
to deflect, which, by spreading the brake
shoes, immobilize the trailer. Prior to
moving off, handbrake must be released -
steel cable must hang loose.
