rganizing Your Files & Folders
People's music collections have grown from a few albums in the old days,
to a few hundred CD's, to thousands of media files today. It is not
uncommon today for collections to be huge. It is important to get
organize your files the right way.
How Do I Name My Files?
Many media players, like iTunes, name files their way to keep you using
their product, because you can't identify your music any other way.
Since you will be dealing with many files, name your media files in a
standard way, otherwise you will wind up unable to find songs when you
want them, and have many duplicate titles. We recommend renaming
your music using the most standard convention which is Artist –
Title.mp3, where mp3 can be any media file type. This way you will
always be able to physically identify your music by filename.
Even though other media types, like WAV or videos, do not contain file
tags, you can get ahead of the game by also naming them the same way,
e.g. Artist – Title.mpg.
