In normal environmental conditions, this coating is formed in about 18-36 months and
its color varies from an initial orange to a reddish-brown hue, the typical rust color that
gives the material an effect that is not only aesthetic but protective.
Corten must not be placed in the vicinity of chlorides (sea water for example) because
they prevent the formation of the film and can promote corrosion.
