1-5. Repeat steps 1 through 5 on left to disassemble tool.

Clean the piston using a wire brush. Inspect it for worn or
damaged piston ring, chipped end, or bending. Apply lubricant to
the piston shank to minimize piston sticking from an overdrive
con dition. Wipe the piston dry.
7.
If a piston tip is damaged, it can be shortened a maximum of
0.20 inches. The tip of the piston should be ground flat and at 90
degrees to the shank of the piston. The cham fer of the piston
must also be reground as shown. Piston grinding should be
performed by qualified per sonnel using the proper equipment.

Replace Piston, Buffer, Fastener Guide, and Shield.

Reassemble tool in reverse fashion to disassembly procedure
detailed on left.
1.
Pull “Locating Pin” (item #8) to release “Shield” (item #1).
Rotate Shield while gently pulling away from tool.
2.
Remove Shield.

Pull “Fastener Guide” (item #2) out and remove from tool.

Remove “Piston” (item #12) by pulling with hand or pliers.

Note: to modify tool from 1/4” diameter to 3/8” diameter
shield or visa versa, the piston, fastener guide, and shield
must all be changed
7.
Reassemble tool in reverse fashion to the disassembly procedure
detailed above.

Remove “Buffer” (item #3).
