Other Important Safe Operating Practices for Mowing with Riding Garden Tractors
7. READ THE TRACTOR OWNER’S MANUAL COMPLETELY. Know the
controls and how to stop quickly.
8. Do not allow children to operate the vehicle. Do not allow adults
to operate it without proper instruction.
9. Do not carry passengers. Keep children and pets a safe distance
away.
10. Clear the work area of objects which might be picked up and
thrown.
11. Be sure the attachment clutch (PTO Switch) is pushed “down”,
shift transaxle into neutral, and fully depress the brake / clutch
pedal before attempting to start the engine.
12. The tractor engine should be operated at 1/2 to full speed when
using the mower. Use tractor gears to regulate ground speed,
not the brake / clutch pedal.
13. Do not stop or start suddenly when going uphill or downhill.
Mow up and down the face of steep slopes, never across the
face.
14. Reduce speed on slopes and in sharp turns to prevent tipping or
loss of control. Exercise extreme caution when changing
direction on slopes.
15. Stay alert for holes in the terrain and other hidden hazards.
16. Watch out for traffic when crossing or mowing near roadways.
17. Mow only in daylight or in good artificial light.
18. Most lawns should be mowed to keep the grass 2 to 3 inches
high. Cutting the grass high enables for to maintain a green lawn
with less water. For extremely tall grass, set cutting height at
maximum for the first mowing, then reset to desired height and
mow again.
19. Never, however, make a cutting height adjustment while the
engine is running.
20. Take all possible precautions when leaving the tractor
unattended. Disengage power to the mower, by pushing PTO
switch down, lower the mower, then shift the transmission /
transaxle into neutral, set parking brake, stopping the engine and
removing the ignition key.
21. The tractor and mower should be stopped and inspected for
damage after striking a foreign object, and the damage should
be repaired before restarting and operating the equipment.
22. Clean grass clippings from deck, belts and engine areas after
each use to prevent overheating and minimize risk of fire.
23. Keep the tractor and mower in good operating condition, and
keep all safety devices in place.
24. Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure the equipment is
in safe working condition.
25. Replace belts when edges become worn and rounded.
26. Check the blade mounting bolts for proper tightness at frequent
intervals. Keep blades sharp and in balance.
27. Do not mow in reverse. Always look behind when moving in
reverse. Raise the mower deck to prevent grass and mower
damage.
28. Dress properly. Clothing should be free of tears or frayed edges.
Wear heavy shoes with steel toes. Wear ear muffs in conditions
of excessive noise. Wear a respirator in very dusty conditions.
29. Keep alert. Fatigue, worry, preoccupation, and illness work
against safety. Drugs and alcohol impair skill and judgement.

Purpose
This rotary mower is intended to provide a clean even cut to fine
lawns and large grassy areas. Used for this purpose and given
regular maintenance it will last for years. It should not be used to
cut heavy brush, to pulverize dirt or for any other non‐lawn mowing
function.
Replacement Parts
Use only POWER KING tractor replacement parts and indicate Serial
Number and Date of Purchase of mower to aid identification when
ordering parts. Replacement parts for this mower should be
purchased from your local Power King Dealer or they may also be
purchased from Engineering Products Company if necessary.

WARNING
READ THIS FIRST!
1. Never direct discharge of material toward bystanders nor allow
anyone near the vehicle while in operation.
2. Never grasp the edge of the deck or reach under it while the engine is
running.
3. Shut off engine when unclogging the discharge chute.
4. Push PTO Switch down, disengaging power to mower, and stop the
engine before leaving the operator’s position, or before making any
repairs or adjustments.
5. Push PTO Switch down, disengaging power to mower, before raising
to transport position or when not in use.
6. In case of excessive vibration – IMMEDIATELY STOP the tractor and
determine the cause. Correct or repair the problem before
proceeding. Continued vibration causes wear and may result in parts
failure.
