7.  If you drop the battery charger or it is interrupted by

another strong mechanical use, have it checked for dam-
age by a recognised professional workshop before you
use it again. Damaged parts must be repaired.

8.  Handle the battery with care. Do not drop it or knock it.
9.  Never try to repair the battery or battery charger your-

self. Repairs must always be carried out by a recognised
professional workshop to avoid the risk of accidents.

10. Before cleaning or servicing the battery or battery

charger, always remove the charger's plug from the
mains.

11. Never charge the battery if the ambient temperature is

below 10° C or above 40° C.

12. The ventilation holes of the charger should always be

free.

13.  The battery may not be short-circuited.

If short-circuiting occurs, power with a high electri-
cal current will flow. This can lead to the battery

overheating, catching fire or exploding, which can result in
damage to the battery or the user having an accident.

Therefore:

1. Do not connect cables to the poles of the battery.
2. Ensure that there are no metal objects (nails, paperclips,

coins, etc.) in the battery holder.

3. Do not leave the battery in water or rain.

14. Damaged battery chargers or batteries which can no

longer be charged should be disposed of as special waste.
Do not dispose of them together with domestic waste.

15. Never throw the battery into water or a fire,  it may

explode.

OPERATIONS

TIGHTENING AND LOOSENING THE
BATTERY

Fig. B

Check that the outside of the battery or the machine
is clean and dry before connecting the charger.

Place the battery (5) in the foot of the machine as indi-
cated in the diagram. Press it into place until it clicks
into place.

Press the locking buttons on both sides (10) before
loosening the battery and then pull the battery out of
the foot of the machine.

SELECT THE BLADE SUITABLE FOR YOUR
TASK

The smaller shear blade is best for trimming grass
from around tree trunks and garden fixtures and for
shaping topiary.

The larger hedge trimmer blade is best for larger
hedges and bushes.

THE CHANGE OF BLADE:

2. Blade alignment with unit
3. Fitted hedge trimmer blade

4. Fixing screws

Remove the battery pack, to prevent accidental opera-
tion.

Using the hex key provided, remove the 3 screws fixing
the blade to the tool.

Remove blade, check that gearbox is well greased.
Add if necessary.

Take blade to be fitted and ensure that the raised cam
on the large drive gear aligns into the slot in the mov-
ing section of the blade. (Fig. C). Place the blade in
position

Re-fix the fixing screws.

Attach battery and check operation of tool. If blade
does not operate correctly, stop immediately and
check mating of the blade slot to the gearbox cam.

Before trimming a hedge, check that it is free of for-
eign material such as tie wire. Trim back branches

of the hedge greater than 4 or 5 mm with pruning shears first.

If cutting causes the blade to jam, stop and remove
the blockage immediately.

Keep hands away from blades.

HEDGE TRIMMING TIPS

SHAPING

Fig. D

The hedge should be trimmed to achieve a trapezoidal
shape, which is wider at the bottom than the top.
This will improve the light penetration to the lower
region of the shrub. An approximate guide is 10 cm in for
every metre in height. The bush can be rounded or col-
umn shaped.

CUTTING SEQUENCE

Fig. E and Fig. F

First trim both sides from the bottom upwards, this
prevents any debris from falling into the area which
has yet to be cut (Fig. E)

Then trim the top, if the branches of the hedge are
extremely long, trim them back in multiple stages.
(Fig. F).

Note: Doing this also has the benefit of having
shorter cutting which will decompose better on a
compost heap.

If older hedges need to be cut back a substantial
amount, use pruning shears to trim thicker branches
to the desired length before going to work with the
hedge trimmer.

Ensure that the blade does not come into contact
with anything which could damage it, such as fencing
wire or metal plants support.

AFTER USE

Clean the blades and lightly lubricate with household oil
or spray lubricant.
