1.3 Product Overview
The PMC251 is an intelligent PROFIBUS controller board providing PROFIBUS FMS
master/slave and PROFIBUS DP master functionality with high communication speeds.
The PROFIBUS protocol FMS is particularly well suited for general purpose communi-
cation at cell or field level, while DP is designed for time-critical communication between
systems and distributed peripherals.
To exchange data between the local Motorola M68360 CPU and the system host CPU,
a PCI-to-local bridge, an SRAM interface architecture and an interrupt mechanism are
realized.
