Pensotti Heatline Quatech Series

Venting Requirements
Oil fired appliances shall be connected to flues or vents having sufficient draft at all times to
ensure safe and proper operation of the appliance.
When venting the Pensotti Heatline Quatech Series boilers, all installations should conform to all
national, local and state codes and authorities having jurisdiction.
When no local code is in effect NFPA-31 should be used as a reference, and baseline document.
In addition, the design of chimney connectors, chimneys, power-venting systems and direct vent
systems should also conform to local and State codes, and good industry practice. In lieu of local
codes, NFPA-211 should be used as a reference.
Natural Draft Applications
After placing the boiler within close proximity to the venting system, the following basic
guidelines should be observed that would prevent the following conditions from occurring:
•
Condensation of flue gasses.
•
Positive outlet draft conditions.
•
Reverse flow of fluegas during or after burner shutdown.
Chimney Connection
For proper efficiency and safe operation of the boiler, the flue gases must be released through a
properly sized and cleaned chimney or venting system with adequate draft that is in accordance
with local regulations and NFPA 211 and NFPA31.
Before using the boiler, it must be connected to an independent chimney flue. Insufficient and
shared flue pipes should be avoided.
Never use an adjustable damper in the chimney or flue pipe.
The internal diameter of the chimney flue should be at least 6 inch.
For connection of the boiler flue outlet to the chimney, a 6 inch diameter fluepipe must be used
throughout its length or on the smaller three models you may reduce to 5 inch throughout its
length.
The distance between the boiler and the chimney should be at least 12 inches long where elbows
are used and at least 24 inches long if no elbows are used.
The maximum length of the horizontal flue pipe must be no longer than 10 feet if it contains no
elbows and 6 feet if elbows are used.
The height of the chimney should be within these values.
The top of the chimney should be at least 32 inches above the ridge of the roof.
The flue pipe should be placed at a rising slope of 15 degrees and all of those parts of the flue
subject to cold must be insulated.
The flue pipe must be properly supported and be 18 inches from all combustible surfaces.
In addition, the following rules of good industry practice should be followed;
•
The chimney connector should be constructed of at least 24-gauge metal.
•
NEVER connect the appliance into a chimney or liner serving an open fireplace.
