7.3.4 Fax – receiving
The other party complains
that letters on their
received document are
distorted or not clear.
L
If your line has special telephone services such as call waiting, the
service may have been activated during fax transmission. Connect
the unit to a line that does not have these services.
L
Another telephone on the same line is off the hook. Hang up the
extension telephone and try again.
L
Try copying the document. If the copied image is clear, there may
be something wrong with the other party’s machine.
The other party complains
that black lines, white
lines or smudges appear
on their received
document.
L
The glass or rollers are dirty with correction fluid, etc. Clean them
(page 60). Please do not insert a document before correction fluid
has dried completely.

I cannot receive
documents.
L
The telephone line cord is connected to the
[EXT]
socket on the
unit. Connect to the
[LINE]
socket (page 18).
I cannot receive
documents automatically.
L
The receiving mode is set to TEL mode. Set to FAX ONLY mode
(page 36) or TEL/FAX mode (page 36).
L
The time taken to answer the call is too long. Decrease the number
of rings before the unit answers a call (feature #06 on page 42 and
#78 on page 44).
The display shows
“
CONNECTING.....
”, but
faxes are not received.
L
The incoming call is not a fax. Change the receiving mode to TEL
mode (page 35) or TEL/FAX mode (page 36).
A blank sheet is ejected.
L
The other party placed the document in their fax machine the
wrong way. Check with the other party.
The printing quality is
poor.
L
If documents can be copied properly, the unit is working normally.
The other party may have sent a faint document or there may be
something wrong with the other party’s machine. Ask them to send
a clearer copy of the document or to check their fax machine.
L
Some paper has instructions recommending which side to print on.
Try turning the paper over.
L
You may have used paper with a cotton and/or fibre content that is
over 20%, such as letterhead or resume paper.
L
The remaining toner is low. Replace the toner cartridge (page 54).
L
We recommend you replace the drum unit every fourth time you
replace the toner cartridge (page 54). To check the drum life and
quality, please print the printer test list (page 62).
L
The toner save mode is ON (feature #79 on page 45).
The other party complains
that they cannot send a
document.
L
The memory is full of received documents due to a lack of
recording paper or a recording paper jam. Install paper (page 16)
or clear the jammed paper (page 56).
L
The unit is not in FAX ONLY mode. Press
