Troubleshooting
1.
The engine is difficult to start or will not start.
Unscrew the spark plug and allow the spark plug to touch the cylinder or some other
metal object and carefully pull the recoil starter cord and see if sparks are generated.
Do not touch any of the spark plug's metal parts or the metal object otherwise you
will suffer an electric shock.
Problem Cause Solution
No spark Spark plug The spark plug is wet Dry it
Carbon deposit on
spark plug Remove the carbon
deposit
The gap between the
spark plug electrodes
are either too small or
too large. Adjust the gap to 0.6–
0.7 mm
The insulation on the
spark plug is damaged Replace the spark plug
Electrodes are burned Replace the spark plug
Ignition coil Damaged cable Repair or replace
Insulation on coil is
damaged Replace
Spark plug cable
broken Replace
Ignition coil is defective Replace
Normal spark Compression is fine
and fuel supply normal Too much fuel has
been sucked in Reduce the amount of
fuel
The fuel is
contaminated with
water or dirt Replace fuel
The fuel supply is
normal but the
compression is poor The cylinder and piston
ring blade are worn or
broken Replace
Spark plug is loose Screw securely
No fuel supply The tank is empty Replenish with fuel
The fuel filter is dirty Clean it
The air hole in the fuel
tank is blocked Clean
