1 Foreword
English
This document applies to the custom fabrication SBK 33904.002.
2 Product description
The power wheelchair is equipped with a power caster wheel swivel lock. The caster wheel swivel lock is used to
lock the caster wheels in the forward direction so turning is no longer possible. Having the power wheelchair drive
in a perfectly straight line increases safety when driving on ramps or using lifts.
The switch to operate the caster wheel swivel lock is on the clothing guard on the control panel side (see fig. 1).
3 Safety
WARNING
Failure to observe the instructions for use for the main product
Risk of accident and serious injury, damage due to failure to observe important information
►
The additional documentation only applies in connection with the instructions for use for the main product. A
knowledge of all the documents is a basic prerequisite for proper use.
►
For this reason, all information regarding use has to be carefully read before using the product and all safety
notices must be observed.
NOTICE
Improper use of the caster wheel swivel lock
Loss of functionality, damage to the product due to overloading
►
Please note that the caster wheel swivel lock function is electromechanical and has no impact on the joystick
functions. Avoid excessive steering movements on the joystick when the caster wheels are locked.
►
Only operate the caster wheel swivel lock when the wheelchair is stopped.
►
The caster wheel swivel lock is only approved for short-term manoeuvring, not for continuous operation.
►
Perform regular visual inspections and functional tests.
►
Clean the caster wheel swivel lock bolts if they get dirty.
INFORMATION
Note that the caster wheel swivel lock can only be locked when the wheelchair control device is switched on.
The wheelchair control device must be switched off during transportation in a motor vehicle. When the wheelchair
control device is switched off, the caster wheels are automatically unlocked and may move to a minor extent due
to movements during transportation.
At the end of transportation in a motor vehicle, ensure that the caster wheels are positioned straight before you
unload the wheelchair. Perform a slight steering correction if necessary so the caster wheel swivel lock bolts can
engage correctly again.
4 Use
Engaging the caster wheel swivel lock
1) Move the wheelchair ahead until the caster wheels are in a straight position.
2) Stop the wheelchair.
3) Operate the caster wheel swivel lock switch (see fig. 1, position “I”).
→
The caster wheel swivel lock bolts extend and lock the caster forks (see fig. 2).
INFORMATION: If the bolts do not engage directly in the caster forks, correct the position of the
caster wheels slightly using the joystick.
→
The power wheelchair drives straight ahead, forward or reverse.
