To change or remove the wedge (26) loosen the screws (27). After changing the wedge tighten the screws by hand
again and secure with Loctite. Use a 2 mm Allen key.
Swing phase control
You can set flexion and extension separately depending on the user’s needs.
The pneumatic system is supplied in its basic setting. In the basic setting, both valves are opened 2 turns. You can
adjust the joint to any individual gait from this basic setting.
Adjusting the flexion and extension valve
To achieve a pleasant gait, first adjust the flexion. Then the gait can be harmonised by adjusting the extension.
When setting up the joint, ensure that it is finely adjusted for the individual user. For this fine adjustment, turn the
screw in small increments of about ¼ of a turn. Check the result.
Too much flexion
Turn the flexion valve to the right with a 3 mm Allen key.
(fig. 5)
Too little flexion
Turn the flexion valve to the left with a 3 mm Allen key.
(fig. 6)
Hard extension end stop
Turn the extension valve to the right with a 3 mm Allen key.
(fig. 7)
Extension too slow
Turn the extension valve to the left with a 3 mm Allen key.
(fig. 8)
Attention:
the extension should only be so far dampened that a complete extension can always still be achieved!
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• The adapters used at the top connection must always be tightened to the specified torque for the modular
component concerned. Use a torque wrench.
• The adapters used for the lower connection (e.g. tube adapter) must be inserted down to the end stop in the
tube receiver of the knee joint.
• The screw (1) in the tube receiver must be secured with Loctite and tightened to a torque of 16 Nm. Use a
torque wrench (5 mm Allen key).
• The central screws (36, 37, 38) must be secured with Loctite and tightened to a torque of 35 Nm. Use a torque
wrench (8 mm Allen key).
• The alignment instructions and adjustment notes must be observed.
• Do not unscrew any screws other than those described here.
• To adjust the axle geometry, secure the screws (27) of the wedges (26) with Loctite and hand tighten.
• When walking, the valves must not be fully closed.
• The use of talc, particularly together with lubricants, can cause the joint to jam. Therefore, please do not use
any talc!
• Do not use compressed air for cleaning. We recommend the use of a brush.
Use with the IKF-Adapter
• In the event of visible changes, wear or impaired function, the IKF-Adapterand and its buffer must be replaced.
• Please ensure that the patient knows how to handle the IKF-Adapterand and the prosthesis before leaving your
premises. Failure to observe this warning may result in the patient falling.
• Any manipulation of any kind whatsoever will lead to premature wear and breakage of the adapter.
• Ensure that A-P adjustment of the IKF-Adapter is correct.
• Ensure that the buffer component is correctly mounted.
Use with the loop adapter
• To guarantee the safety of the user, ensure that you use sufficient carbon/glass fibre reinforcing material when
laminating the loop adapter.
