Advanced Static Search
Figure 19 shows the Advanced Static Search Screen. In this expert mode, the screen auto-rotates to landscape
orientation and, in addition to the Static Search displays, adds count-rate and Y2F scrolling charts similar to
those on the Mobile Search screen. Points are added to the charts in evenly spaced time intervals to give a
total of 40 points for the total dwell time. The count-rate chart tracks both cosmic and non-cosmic count rate
and provides error bars with each data point. The Y2F chart includes error bars as well. In both cases, the size
of the error bars typically decreases as more data is collected.

3.4 Characterization Data Collect (Triage) Mode
Figure 20 shows the Characterization Data Collect Mode screen. Use this mode to collect a large data set for
expert analysis via the Triage function (Section 3.5). Typically, you will count until 1,000,000 counts have
been collected or 1 hour has passed, whichever comes first. You can either manually control the length of
the acquisition with the
Start
and
Stop
buttons, or tap
Settings
and set a
Dwell Time
, in minutes (Figure 21).
To return to manual control, set the dwell time to zero or exit and re-enter Characterization Data Collect
Mode.
Tap
Start
to begin data acquisition. When counting is complete, tap
Download
to transfer the data from the
detector buffer to a
2A.log
file on the Ranger. You can then graph the data (
) and/or choose whether
to send the
2A.log
file for expert analysis via
E-mail Data
(
