the absorbance of the cuvette and converts the
absorbance value into a concentration value or
positive/negative result on the basis of preset kit
calibration data.
7 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
7.1 Initial Start-Up
The QuikRead 101 Instrument is designed to be
used only with QuikRead reagent kits.
Plug the instrument into a power outlet and switch
ON. The LCD will display “QuikRead“ and, after
a few seconds, the instrument software version,
as well as the current date (see Appendix B for
display messages). While displaying these texts,
the instrument will perform a selfcheck test.
7.2 Performing an Assay
The following is an example of how to perform an
assay with the QuikRead system. Prior to starting
any assay, READ and FOLLOW the QuikRead
reagent kit insert for the specific assay procedure
and sample requirements.
Step 1
After a successful selfcheck the LCD will
display:
Read the card
Remove the magnetic card from the reagent kit.
Hold the card with its text facing you. Place the
card in the reader slot. Slide the card through the
slot in one smooth motion.
After successfully reading the card, the instru
ment will display the lot data encoded on the card
(test name, lot and lot expiry date) on the LCD.
After this the LCD will display:
Ready for use
<test> lot <lot>
where <test><lot> is the name and the lot of the
test specified on the card. The instrument is now
ready for use.
Step 2
Insert a cuvette with buffer and sample into the
measurement well. The LCD will display:
Measuring blank
<xx> s
where <xx> is the maximum number of seconds
available for blank measurement.
At the end of the blank measurement, the
instrument will beep and the LCD will display:
Add reagent
Lift the cuvette
Step 3
Add reagent by pressing down the inner part of
the cap and remove the cuvette from the well for
shaking. The LCD will display:
Shake the cuvette
.......
After a period of shaking the LCD will display:
Insert the cuvette
for measurement
Step 4
The LCD display will change to:
Measuring
<xxx> s
where <xxx> is the maximum time in seconds left
for measurement.
After measurement the result is displayed as
follows:
Sample <sample number> / <date>
Result <result> <test>
where <sample number> is the running sample
number, <date> is the current date (year, month,
day), <result> is the result, and <test> is the
analyte.
