9.7 Use of illumination
The OPTIGEM microscope comes with an integrated LED illumi -
nation system that consists of three separate light sources:
1. Incident illumination: through a flexible arm attached to the
microscope stage.
2. Transmitted illumination: from the hole of the microscope
stage.
3. Darkfield illumination: a LED ring inside the stage hole.
By turning the switch

on the left side of the base (Fig. 16), the
different observation methods can be selected.

The transmitted light illumination has an additional option: the
slider

(Fig. 18) allows observation in bright field (a) or “velvet”
dark field (b) (Fig. 19) by simply moving the slider to the left or
to the right.

The switch has four available position (Fig. 17):
a) Transmitted light illumination
b) Darkfield illumination
c) Darkfield illumination combined with Incident illumination
d) Incident light illumination
