3.6 Removing/Replacing the Load Cell
A Load Cell that is even slightly bent or corroded should be replaced. The Load Cell may also
need to be replaced because of instability, or because the scale does not calibrate or repeat.
Note:
The Load Cell is supplied as an assembled unit. (See Chapter 5)
1. Remove the battery to access the Load Cell bolts. (See Figure 3-6)
2. Remove the cable leads connecting the Load Cell to the PCB. (See Figure 3-2.)
3. Remove the bolts and the small
screw (marked with red circle in
figure 3-6) that hold the Load Cell
Frame to the Load Cell. Use a
high-leverage Allen wrench. (The
bolts are tightened to about 50 in/lb
torque.)
Note:
There is a shim between the
Load Cell Frame and the Load Cell.
Be careful not to lose it.
4. Lift up the bottom housing and
remove the two screws securing
the Load cell to the top housing.
(See figure 3-6)
5. Lift the Load Cell away from the
housing.
Figure 3-5. The two bolts and small screw
holding the bottom housing frame to the Load
Cell.
Figure 3-6. The two screws holding the Load
Cell to the top housing.
6. When installing the replacement Load Cell, first insert and tighten the two screws
that secure it to the top housing (see Figure 3-6), then push the load cell cables
through the hole in the bottom housing. Next, position the shim and insert and tighten
the two bolts and the small screw to secure the Load Cell to the bottom housing.
(See table 3-1 for bolt torque settings)
7. Reinsert the cable leads connecting the Load Cell to the PCB. (See Figure 3-2.)
