Fuel Powered Generator set
Fuel powered generators (gen-sets) are used as an additional power source to
supply 230V AC electricity. This is typically at times when the renewable generators
are not able to provide enough power, or at times of increased demand. The
Generator may be needed to assist with full and equalisation charges at certain
intervals
(See Battery Charging)
During generator set use only the battery charger section in Outback inverter/charger is operational:
o
The generator must now supply all power for the house while also recharging the battery bank.
o
The inverter/charger will automatically roll back battery charging as necessary to help support larger
household loads.
o
When using a fuel generator set care must be taken to not over burden the generator with AC loads
which are excessive for either the generators rating or the method of connection used.
WARNING
o
Consult the separate generator manual prior to use, with particular attention to safety instructions.
o
Always ensure fuel and other flammable products are stored well away from the generator.
o
Ensure exhaust gases are properly ducted away from the generator and a good supply of fresh air is
available in the generator enclosure.
o
If the generator has an auto-start function, always disable this function before any maintenance work
begins (via “Auto-Start Enable/Disable Switch” installed adjacent to the generator)
o
Do not smoke near the generator and its fuel storage area.
o
Beware of moving parts during use.
o
Beware of hot parts during use.
o
Do not touch or damage any exposed generator cables or connections.
When required, a generator with an auto-start function may be started by the inverter/charger to
supplement the power supply. When this occurs there is a short delay between the gen-set starting and
the power being transferred through to the loads as the generator warms up (60 seconds).
o
The Inverter/Charger will automatically regulate battery charging. The generator cannot overcharge the
batteries, when being automatically controlled by the Outback inverter/charger.
o
The recharging process will slow down considerably towards the end of recharging as the batteries go
through the final charge absorption phase. (See Battery Charging)
o
Only a 15-amp socket can be inserted into the generator inlet on the inverter/charger board.
