OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING
Ensure you read, understand and apply safety instructions before use.
1. Always inspect, maintain and operate in accordance with ANSI safety
code for power tools and other local safety codes and regulations.
2. Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the
workpiece to a stable platform.
3. Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for the job.
4. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any
adjustments, changing accessories or storing the tool.
5. Check for misalignment or binding moving parts, breakage of parts and
any other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have
the tool serviced before using.
6. Never hold the workpiece in one hand and the tool in the other hand
when in use. Never place the hands near or below the cutting surface.
7. Never lay workpiece on hard surfaces like concrete, stone, etc.
8. The Engraver is wired at the factory for 110–120V operation. It must be
connected to a 110–120V, 15A time delayed fuse or circuit breaker. To
avoid shock or fire, replace power cord immediately if it is worn, cut or
damaged in any way.
9. Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is OFF before plugging in.
WARNING
If any part is missing or damaged, do not plug the Engraver into the power
source until the missing or damaged part is replaced.
To avoid fire or toxic reaction, never use gasoline, naphtha, acetone, lacquer
thinner or similar highly volatile solvents to clean the tool.
Apply only light pressure to the engraving tool during operation. Too much
pressure may damage the surface being engraved and damage the tip of the
engraving tool.
REPLACING THE ENGRAVING TIP
The engraving tool is shipped with the engraving tip and protective tip cover
installed. The protective tip cover must be placed on the engraving tip when
the tool is not in use to protect the tip from damage and the handler from
injury.
To replace the engraving tip:
1. Insert a small slot screwdriver (1) into the engraving tip set screw (2)
(Fig. 1).
2. Turn the set screw counterclockwise to release the engraving tip (3).
When the engraving tip is released, pull it out of the tool.
3. Insert the new engraving tip into the tool as far as it will go and tighten
the set screw.
SETTING THE DEPTH CONTROL
The engraving depth can be adjusted to suit the type of surface being
engraved.
1. To engrave a shallow marking, set the depth control knob
(1) to “1” (Fig. 2).
2. To engrave a deep marking, set the depth control knob to “5”.
NOTE:
Softer materials will require settings of “1 to 3”. Hard materials will
require settings of “3 to 5”. Always test the depth control setting on a scrap
workpiece of the same material as the good workpiece to be sure the depth
control is set correctly and will engrave the workpiece correctly.
3. Pull on the accessory to ensure it is securely in place.
OPERATING THE ENGRAVING TOOL
Always use safety glasses, ear protection and a dust mask when
operating the engraving tool. Using these safety items will protect you against
flying particles during the engraving process.
The engraving tool can be used to engrave many different types of
materials, including metal, glass, plastic, wood, ceramics, etc.
1. Check to make sure the engraving tip is in good condition and is properly
installed in the tool (Fig. 1).
2. Set the depth control knob (Fig. 2).
3. Plug the power cord into the power source.
4. Turn the tool ON, by pressing the top of the ON/OFF switch (1)
(Fig. 3). To turn the tool OFF, press the bottom part of the ON/OFF switch
(2).
5. Hold the engraving tool at an angle to the workpiece as you would hold a
pen (Fig. 4) and begin engraving.
NOTE:
DO NOT
press down too hard while engraving. Use only light
pressure while guiding the engraving point on the workpiece. Always use
consistent pressure on the engraving tip and move the tool on the
workpiece at a consistent speed to produce consistent engraving results.
WARNING
The engraver will build up heat during continuous operation. Do not
operate the engraver continuously for more than 5 minutes at a time.
After 5 minutes of continuous operation, the tool must be turned OFF and
allowed to cool down for at least 5 minutes.
