Spark Arrestor
! WARNING
Failure to heed the following warnings while servicing the spark arrestor
could result in serious injury or death.
●Do not perform service on the spark arrestor while the system is hot. Allow
components to cool sufficiently before proceeding.
●Wear eye protection and gloves.
●Never run the engine in an enclosed area. Exhaust contains poisonous
carbon monoxide gas.
To remove accumulated carbon, clean the spark arrestor at the intervals
recommended in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 46.
1. Remove the six bolts and remove the arrestor from the end of the
muffler.
2. Use a non-synthetic brush to clean the arrestor screen. A synthetic brush
may melt if components are warm. If necessary, blow debris from the
screen with compressed air.
3. Inspect the screen for wear and damage. Replace the arrestor if damage
is found.
4. Reinstall the arrestor.
5. Torque the bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (9.5 Nm).
