4E: Dinghy, Davit & Outboard
4E1: Davit
The dinghy is carried on a folding boom crane on the flybridge.
Be careful where you step on the flybridge while launching or retrieving the dinghy so as not to fall off! It is sensible to
close the hatch while working around the dinghy in its crane!
Read these warnings while operating the crane:
•
Do not hoist the dinghy until the boom is extended and the steel plunger is in the locked position.
•
Never load the crane with more than 800 pounds total.
•
Remove cargo and excess water from the dinghy before hoisting.
•
Never hoist the dinghy with anyone aboard.
•
Position the crane over the load: It is designed for vertical lifting only.
•
Be aware the boat may list when lowering the dinghy. Be cautious lest the boom swing due to this tilt.
•
Do not leave crane attached to tender when not in use.
•
Detach the control when the crane is not actively in use.
To launch the dinghy:
1. A crew member gets the crane control box from its
storage place in the salon starboard side aft locker and
attaches it to the crane on the flybridge.
2. The crew member makes sure the drain plug is in the
dinghy drain!
3. The brake limiting rotation of the crane is loosened;
4. The crane is raised clear of the railing (press “Boom Up”)
and rotated to a convenient spot (“Boom Left”)
5. The hook is lowered slightly and the hook is withdrawn
from is storage position.
6. The operator pulls down the pin under the crane boom
and simultaneously presses the “extend” (lower left)
button. As soon as the crane boom begins to
extend, the pin need not be held out.
7. When the boom extends to it’s stop (a “Click”
is heard as the pin re- engages), the operator
releases the “Extend” button.
8. Then “Boom Up” and “Boom Left”muntil the
boom is directly above the middle of the dinghy
just forward of the outboard so that, when the
hook is attached, the hook will pull straight up
with all three cables evenly taught.
DO NOT lift the dinghy at all until you release
the three tie-downs, one forward and two aft.
Also, be sure the outboard motor skeg is raised
off the deck (it should have been left that way).
As you lift the dinghy, you may need to pull it
slightly toward its bow to release it from the aft
position locating pin.
