CD Player Operation
HANDLING A DISC
• Be sure hands are clean when handling discs.
• Always place compact disc onto disc spindle with the label facing outward.
• To remove disc from its storage case, press down on the center of the case and lift the
disc out, holding it carefully by the edges.
• Always keep the compact disc in its storage case when not in use. This protects it from
scratches and dust.
• Do not apply labels or write on the disc surface.
LOADING A DISC
CAUTION:
• Do not attempt to defeat the safety interlock. Avoid direct exposure to invisible laser
beam.
• Do not touch the lens of the CD Player or damage will result.
• To keep the laser pick-up clean, keep the CD Player door closed unless
inserting/removing discs.
• Do not put anything except a compact disc into the player. Foreign objects will damage
the CD player mechanism.
• Do not attempt to load more than one disc into player.
1. Press the
OPEN
key on the master station. The CD Player door will open.
2. Complete the opening of the door by moving the door from left to right.
3. Snap the disc onto the CD Player spindle with the label side facing outward.
4. Close the CD Player door by gently moving the door from right to left until the door
latches closed. The display will indicate DISC-IN .
PLAYING/PAUSING A DISC
1. Once a disc is properly loaded and door is secure, press the
PLAY/PAUSE
key. The
forward play indicator
will display and the disc will begin to play.
2. Pressing the PLAY/
PAUSE
key while disc is playing will cause the play operation to
PAUSE
. The
pause indicator will flash.
3. Press the
PLAY
/PAUSE key again to return to play mode.
TRACK SELECTION
1. Momentarily press and release the
TRACK
key to advance to the beginning of the
next track.
2. Momentarily press and release the
TRACK
key to return to the previous track. If the
current track is playing, pressing
TRACK
will restart that track. Press the key again
to return to the previous track.
MUSIC SEARCH
1. Press and hold down the
TRACK
key for at least
1
⁄
2
second to quickly search
forward through the track. Hold down key until music search is complete.
2. Use the
TRACK
key to quickly reverse through the track.
Note:
During
MUSIC SEARCH
mode, the volume level is reduced.

Tape/Aux Auxiliary Selection
Optional audio sources may be selected by using the following procedure.
1. Press
TAPE
. If an optional cassette tape player has been connected to your IMA-4406
master station, this player will be heard as an audio source. Contact your local
NuTone distributor to purchase an optional cassette tape player.
2. Press
AUX
. If an auxiliary external audio source has been connected to the
AUX
input, the unit will be heard as an audio source. The auxiliary audio may be turned
off by pressing the
PROGRAM OFF
key.
Program Audio Controls
The following controls allow the user to adjust the level and tone of the program audio.
1.
MASTER VOLUME:
This control adjusts the program audio level at the master
station.
2.
REMOTE VOLUME:
This control adjusts the program audio level at the remote
station.
3.
SYSTEM VOLUME:
Sets the program audio level throughout the system.
4.
LOUDNESS:
Compensates for the loss of bass and treble response the human
ear has when listening to audio at low volume levels by increase bass and treble
response.
5.
TREBLE:
Adjusts the high frequency audio content of the source audio.
6.
BASS:
Adjusts the low frequency audio content of the source audio.
Setting Program Audio Controls
The volume levels required at each station may vary with the location of the speaker and
the size of the room where the speaker is located. Spend some time experimenting with
volume levels, and adjust each speaker so that you can clearly hear the radio, CD player
and intercom. Use the following procedure to set your system’s volume level.
1. At each remote station, turn the volume control completely clockwise to maximum
volume.
2. At the master station, set the
REMOTE
and
MASTER STATION STATUS
switches to
the
RADIO INTERCOM
position.
3. Turn the
MASTER VOLUME
control to maximum volume.
4. Turn the
SYSTEM VOLUME
control on the master station to approximately

⁄
3
volume.
5. Select an
AM
or
FM
radio station with a clear, strong signal.
6. Adjust the
SYSTEM VOLUME
control at the master station until you have enough
volume at the remote station that requires the highest volume (i.e. large living room,
family room, basement, etc).
Note: The master Station and all Remote Stations
(except the door speakers) are equipped with their own volume controls.
Although the Master Station SYSTEM VOLUME sets the System’s volume level,
you may adjust an individual speaker’s volume level as desired.
7. Adjust the
MASTER VOLUME
control and all remote stations’ volume controls to the
desired volume level. To maintain proper intercom audio levels, it is recommended
that the
MASTER VOLUME
and remote stations’ volume controls be set at

higher.
