204 Chapter 14 Power-and-ground hardware of a Passport 15000 or 20000

BIP replacement
Replace a breaker interface panel (BIP) to increase the power input capability
of a dual-shelf frame setup that includes adding a Passport 20000, or to
correct a hardware failure of a non-modular part of the unit.

Prerequisites to BIP replacement
•
You must be familiar with “Safety considerations and best practices”
(page 53).
•
You need a BIP with one of the following PECs:
— NT6C62 for a frame with one Passport 15000
— NT6C61 for a frame with two Passport 15000s
— AP6C68 for a frame with one Passport 20000
— AP6C67 for a frame with two Passport 20000s
— AP6C67 for a frame with one Passport 20000 and one
Passport 15000 with the appropriately matched BIM pairs inside the
BIP to match the upper or lower position of the node (refer to
“Installing a BIM” (page 374))
•
Have a helper assist you in handling the BIPs. A BIP weighs up to 16 kg
(35 lbs) if four BIMs and the alarm module are already installed.
•
Removing a BIP means disconnecting power to it. With no power, the
Passport 15000 or 20000 switch or switches that it feeds are out of
service until the BIP is re-connected and the system is powered up.
Choose a maintenance window with the lowest average amount of traffic
to the node.
BIP replacement task flow
This task flow shows the sequence of procedures you do to replace the BIP.
To link any procedure, go to “Task flow navigation” (page 205).
