Cutting the felling notch
When the fall direction of the tree has been determined, the felling
notch must be cut. The felling notch is made in the fall direction of
the tree.
Proceed as follows to make the felling notch:
CAUTION
Risk of injury due to tree breaking away prematurely!
If the top and bottom cuts of the felling notch do not meet exactly
and/or the top and bottom cuts of the felling notch are too deep, the
tree can break off prematurely, leading to severe injuries.

Make sure that the depth of the felling notch is 1/5–1/3 of the
trunk diameter.
›
Make the top and bottom cuts so that these meet.
The depth of the felling notch must be 1/5–1/3 of the trunk
diameter and the opening angle of the felling notch must be
45° – 60°.

Create the felling notch base cut (
