1. Introduction
1.1 What is Nino
®
?
The Nino® personal transportation robot is a new generation of electric auto-balanced seated
vehicle , equipped with automatic and smart functions. The driver moves him/ herself while seated
on the robot and operates it with the movements of the upper body (torso) or controls it with the
aid of mobile devices such as smartphones in future versions. Nino® is proud to present the
following functions:
1. It is auto-balanced: its wheels can pivot on the spot.
2. When driving, the operator controls the machine with the position of his/ her body
instead of an accelerator and a brake, which makes steering comfortable and intuitive.
The robot can balance itself automatically so that if the driver is there and leans forward, the wheels will turn forward. The wheels will turn
backwards if the driver leans back.
The driver can also turn right or left simply by turning the steering bar in the corresponding direction. The balance of the Nino® depends on the
working efficiency of its high-speed processor, the precision of its gyroscope, and the motor. If one of these malfunctions, the machine will lose
balance. Therefore, a powerful dual-backup control system is specifically provided in the Nino®—meaning that each essential circuit system in the
machine is equipped with a backup system. If one essential module stops working, it will be taken over by its backup, thus maximizing safety during
movement. The Nino® has a projection surface similar to that of a person and offers great handling. It can thus access the majority of areas where it
is possible to walk, including trails, sidewalks, hallways, rooms, and elevators.
