Install a Network Monitor
A network monitor is useful for examining the causes of network failures and taking the
countermeasures.
Windows Server 2008 R2
Setup procedure of a network monitor
TIPS:
Windows Server 2008 R2 does not include a network monitor. You need to set up Microsoft
Network Monitor to acquire network trace on Windows Server 2008 R2.
1.
Download the network monitor from the Microsoft web site:
http//support.microsoft.com/kb/955998/en-us
2.
Execute the downloaded file and launch the installer.
Follow the directions on the screen to install.
TIPS:
If [Security Warning] appears, click [Run]. Select [Complete] on the screen of the
setup format selection.
This completes the network monitor setup.
Acquisition procedure of a network monitor
1.
Launch Microsoft Network Monitor from the [Start] menu.
2.
Click [Create a new capture tub…] from [Start Page] or click [Capture] from [File]
−
[New].
A new tab for network trace acquisition is created.
3.
Select the target network on [Select Networks].
4.
Click [Start] on the [Capture] menu to start acquiring the network trace.
5.
Click [Stop] on the [Capture] menu to stop acquiring the network trace.
6.
Select [Save As…] under [File] menu.
Select [All capturedrames], and then specify the appropriate folder and the file name when
[Save As] window appears.
TIPS:
By default, the below folder is specified:
C:\Users\<User Name>\Documents\Network Monitor 3\Captures
7.
Click [Save].
