GPS receiver functioning
Locating position
GPS (Global Positioning System) uses satellites orbiting the earth. Those satellites continuously emit
radio signal that contains information about position and time. This way we can receive GPS signal
from at least three satellites on the earth surface,
if we are on the open space . Accuracy of this
data depends on signal quality. If signal is strong enough, and the conditions of signal receiving are
favorable, GPS allows you to determine longitude, latitude and altitude above sea level (so called
3D
signal ). If signal is weak and the conditions of signal receiving are unfavorable only longitute and
latitude determination is possible but with a bigger positioning error.
