Figure 4-4 shows signal connections for three typical digital I/O
applications.

Figure 4-4 shows DIO<0..3> configured for digital input and DIO<4..7>
configured for digital output. Digital input applications include receiving
TTL signals and sensing external device states such as the switch state
shown in Figure 4-4. Digital output applications include sending TTL
signals and driving external devices such as the LED shown in Figure 4-4.
The hardware up/down control for general-purpose counters 0 and 1 are
connected onboard to DIO6 and DIO7, respectively. Thus, you can use
DIO6 and DIO7 to control the general-purpose counters. The up/down
control signals are input only and do not affect the operation of the
DIO lines.
