ABOUT THE SIMULATOR

The

®

Venipuncture and Injection Demonstration Arm may be used to practice venipuncture, IV

placement, intramuscular injection, and suturing. Although this practice and demonstration arm is considered
disposable, with proper care and treatment it will serve its purpose for a long period of time.
The life of the skin may be prolonged by utilizing smaller needle sizes (20- to 25-gauge recommended). Prepare
the injection sites with distilled water only. You may inject ½   cc of distilled water, however, we recommend using
air as the injectant since the water cannot be drained, but must evaporate from the arm. NEVER use synthetic
blood for the injections.
The simulator can also be used for suturing demonstrations “Wounds” may be cut at any desired depth or
location with a sharp scalpel. Each “wound” may be sutured repeatedly, until the skin becomes so heavily
perforated that it will no longer support more suture practice. The “wounds” can be “bandaged” with most
standard adhesive bandages. To remove any residual adhesive, use only Glue-Off (LF01023U).

CARE OF THE SIMULATOR

1.

Do not use povidone-iodine prep solutions, as they will indelibly stain the arm.

2.

Clean normal soil with mild soap and water. Stubborn stains can be treated with

Nasco Cleaner (LF09919U).

3.

Avoid any contact with ball-point pen, newsprint, or other printed material, as these will

permanently stain the simulator.
