18. REAR SPEAKERS
This connects the rear loudspeakers that are used
when the AV 713 is operated in Dolby Pro-Logic or
Hall modes. Connect the right rear speaker to the ter-
minals market ‘R +’ and ‘R-’ ensuring that the ‘R+’ is
connected to the ‘+’ terminal on your loudspeaker and
the ‘R-’ is connected to the loudspeaker’s ‘-’ terminal.
Connect the terminals marked ‘L+’ and ‘L-’ to the left
speaker in the same way. These clip terminals oper-
ate in the same way as the Center Speaker terminals.
These speakers operate in conjunction with Front
Speakers A and are switched on and off by using the
SPEAKER A button on the front panel.
19. NAD-LINK IN OUT
The NAD-Link connector is used to pass com-
mands from the remote control to and from other
units fitted with NAD-Link connectors. This allows
centralised control of a complete system or gives sys-
tem control from more than one room. To function
with other units, connect the AV 713’s NAD-Link OUT
to NAD-Link IN on the other unit. NAD-Link connec-
tors can be daisy-chained, IN to OUT, so that a whole
system can be controlled from the remote control
facilities of one unit.
A single NAD-Link connection from a hi-fi system in
a second room will allow remote control of Multi
Room systems.
20. AC OUTLETS (Australian and US ver-
sions only)
The AC power cords of other units in the audio sys-
tem can be connected directly to the AV 713’s
switched AC outlets. When the AV 713 is switched
off, power to the units connected to these outlets will
be also switched off .
The switched AC outlets should be used with units
with a COMBINED power consumption of no more
than 120 Watts (1 Amp) for U.S. version and 100
Watts for European version.
21. AC POWER CORD CONNECTOR
After you have completed all connections to the
amplifier, plug the AC line cord into a “live” wall sock-
et or into a heavy-duty extension cord which can be
connected to a wall socket.

POWER, SPEAKERS AND HEADPHONE
FUNCTIONS.
1. POWER
The green standby indicator shows that power is
being supplied to the AV 713, but the system is cur-
rently off. Pressing the power switch turns the unit on
and supplies power to the switched AC outlets. The
display panel will indicate AV 713’s current settings.
Pressing the power switch again will turn the AV
713 back into Standby mode. In Standby, the AV 713
stores the current input and mode settings in a non-
volatile memory and re-selects these modes when it
is next switched on. The AV 713 also uses the non-
volatile memory to store pre-set information, both for
the tuner and for the Dolby Pro Logic set-up, so that
these are not lost when the unit is switched to stand-
by or disconnected from the AC supply for up to two
weeks, after two weeks the Memory is lost). During
normal operation the standby indicator lights to show
when a signal is being received from the Remote
Control.
CAUTION: When in standby, power is still supplied
to the AV 713. Disconnect the AV 713 from the AC
outlet when it is not being used for long periods of
time.
2. SPEAKERS A B
The SPEAKER A and B buttons select which of the
two loudspeaker systems are active. Pressing
SPEAKER A will switch on the speakers in the main
listening room, including front left, centre and right
speakers and surrounds. Pressing SPEAKER B will
switch on the stereo pair of speakers used in the sec-
ondary listening area and switches off Speaker set A.
It will also place the AV 713 into Stereo mode, auto-
matically cancelling Pro-Logic or Hall modes. The
Display Panel shows which speakers are currently
selected. Only one set of speakers can be used at
any time.
3. HEADPHONE SOCKET
A 1/4” stereo jack socket is supplied for headphone
listening. The socket has its own amplifier which will
drive conventional headphones of any impedance. It
takes its signal from the front left and right channels
and works on all inputs, although any surround mode
will be heard as two channel stereo. The volume and
tone and balance controls are operative for head-
phone listening. Use a suitable adapter to connect
headphones with other types of connectors such as
3.5mm stereo ‘personal stereo’ jack plugs. Warning:
Listening at high levels can damage your hearing.
VOLUME, BALANCE AND TONE
FUNCTIONS
4. VOLUME
The VOLUME control adjusts the overall loudness
of the signals being fed to the loudspeakers. The
VOLUME control does not affect recordings made
using the Tape or Video line outputs.
5. BASS & TREBLE CONTROLS
The AV 713 is fitted with BASS and TREBLE tone
controls to adjust the overall tonality of your system.
The 12 o’clock position is ‘flat’ with no boost or cut
and a detent indicates this position. Rotate the con-
trol clockwise to increase the amount of Bass or
Treble. Rotate the control anti-clockwise to decrease
the amount of Bass or Treble. These controls affect
the Left and Right front speakers only. In Pro Logic or
Hall modes, the Center and Surround speakers main-
tain a ‘flat’ response, regardless of the tone control
