e) Do not stand on the upper three steps /rungs of supporting ladders.
f) Do not stand on the upper two steps / rugs of a step-ladder without platform and without a
handrail / guard rail.
g) Do not stand on the upper four rungs of a three-piece ladder with extended narrow part in the
upper segment.
h) Ladders are meant to be used for light and short-term work only.
i) Use non-conductive ladders for unavoidable electrician work under voltage.
j) Do not use the ladder outside during unfavourable weather conditions, e.g. when the wind is
strong.
k) Adopt safety measures to prevent children from playing on the ladder.
l) If possible, secure doors (except for emergency doors) and windows within the working space to
prevent the fall of the ladder when the door hits it.
m) Always face the ladder when climbing up or down the ladder.
n) Hold on tight to the ladder when climbing up and down.
o) Do not use the ladder as a bridge.
p) Use suitable shoes.
q) Avoid excessive side loads, e.g. drilling in bricks and concrete when working on supporting
ladders or step-ladders.
r) Do not stay long on the ladder without regular breaks (fatigue is risk).
s) Supporting ladders used to access higher levels must exceed the point of contact by at least one
meter.
t) Objects carried while using the ladder should be light and easily manipulatable.
u) Avoid work requiring side load when working on step-ladders, such as side drilling in solid
materials (such as bricks or concrete).
v) Hold on to the handrail when working on the ladder; if this is not possible, adopt additional
safety measures.
2.4 Using the ladder - additional safety rules
a) When working on the ladder, avoid using chain saws and other hazardous tools possibly causing
severe injuries.
b) When manipulating with taller ladders, it is necessary to consider their weight and the possible
fall of the ladder from its vertical position. At least two persons authorized to position the
ladder must be present during this activity.
c) When working on ladders taller than three meters, there should be at least one person securing
the ladder against any eventual slipping; there should be two persons to provide for security in
ladders taller than five meters.
d) Only one person may work on the ladder.
e) Unfold and fold articulated ladders into their required positions while the ladders are lying on
the ground, not in their working positions.
3. Designated use of ladders in the JC, JCB line (steps)
The JC, JCB (steps) line of ladders is designed for home use, for everyday maintenance work. They
meet the conditions of Standards of the EN 131 set.
Upon delivery, check whether the ladder has not been damaged during transport, especially the
side profiles and rungs. Remove packaging and check the ladder for completeness. Hand over the
packaging for recycling.
