1.3
Adding oil
1. On Crew-cab models, the engine access open-
ing is located under the assistant driver’s seat.
Clean the area around oil filler cap to prevent
dust and dirt from entering the engine.
2. Remove the oil filler cap and add oil as neces-
sary.
3. Make sure that the oil level is correct. If the oil
level is checked immediately after adding, the
reading may be lower than the actual level
because all added oil may have not yet reached
the oil pan. Wait for at least 5 minutes after add-
ing oil. If you add too much oil, remove oil
through the drain plug on the oil pan to achieve
the correct level.
4. Install the oil filler cap.
CAUTION
•
The added oil should be of the same grade
and viscosity as the oil originally placed in
the engine.
•
Take care not to add more than the specified
quantity of oil. The engine can be severely
damaged if the correct engine oil level is not
maintained.
1.4
Replacement
1. Clean the surfaces around the oil filler cap
and remove the oil filler cap.
2. Remove drain plug from the oil pan to remove
the oil. Replace the oil filter at the same time.
P. 12-32
NOTE:
Oil removal is quicker if performed not so long after
the vehicle has been stopped and while the oil is
still warm.
3. After oil has been drained out, clean the area
around the drain plug hole.
4. Refit the drain plug.
WARNING
Take care not to spill engine oil as engine oil
on the exhaust manifold or other hot sec-
tions of engine could catch fire. Wipe clean
the oil if spilt.
WARNING
The engine oil is extremely hot immediately
after the vehicle has been operated. Take
care to avoid being scalded when draining
hot oil. Give the oil time to cool before drain-
ing it.
