CMOS Battery
A battery on the motherboard keeps the clock and values in
CMOS RAM current when your computer is turned off.
The average battery life is between 3 and 5 years.

The CMOS battery is a lithium type. Do not use a metal tool
to remove the battery. An accidental short circuit may cause
the battery to explode. Dispose of the battery according to the
battery manufacturers recommendations.
To replace the battery:
1.
Observe the precautions in “Before You Begin” (
see
page 1 of chapter 2
).
2.
Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the
computer.
3.
Turn off the computer and unplug the power cable.
4.
Remove the computer top and access covers.
5.
With your fingers, gently pry the battery free from its
socket. Note the "+" and "-" orientation of the battery.
