Introduction of the New G-Class, Model Series 463
Direct injection of M 157 AMG
A spray-guided direct injection system is used on
engine M 157 AMG.
Gasoline engines with direct injection require a higher
regulated fuel pressure. This is achieved through a
total of three fuel pumps.
An electric fuel pump located in the tank, which is
actuated by the Fuel System Control Module (FSCM),
pumps the fuel at a pressure of 3-6 bar (controlled
electronically) to two mechanical fuel pumps in the
engine compartment.
The mechanical fuel pumps are located at the end of
the right cylinder head and are driven by four cams
positioned on the camshaft.
The fuel pressure in the high-pressure rail is regulated
on a fully variable basis and according to demand
(depending on operating condition) to between 100
and 200 bar.
There is one high-pressure pump per cylinder bank,
which each supplies 4 cylinders with fuel.
