F ro n t tire s s h o u ld be replaced in
sets. If possible, th e spare tire
s h o u ld be used on th e rear w heels.
We re co m m e n d th a t you break in
new tire s fo r a p p ro x im a te ly
100 km/60 m iles at m od e ra te speed.

th a t th e w heel m o u n tin g b o lts

800 km /500 m iles. On new vehicles
V re tig h te n in g is ca rrie d o u t in the

tig h te n in g is also necessary w hen
new w heels are fitte d at a later date,
e.g. w h e n th e spare w heel is used
fo r th e firs t tim e o r w hen a new set
o f w h e e ls w ith M + S tire s is fitte d .

R o ta tin g w heels:
The w h e e ls can be rotated a c c o rd ­
ing to th e degree o f tire w ear w h ile
re ta in in g th e sam e sense o f ro ta ­
tio n . R o ta tin g , how ever, s h o u ld be
ca rrie d o u t b e fo re th e c h a ra c te ris tic
tire w ear p a tte rn (s h o u ld e r w ear on
fro n t w h e e ls and tread c e n te r w ear
on rear w heels) becom es vis ib le at a
m ile a g e o f 5 0 0 0 -1 0 0 0 0 km /
3 0 0 0 -6 0 0 0 m iles as o th e rw is e the
d riv in g p ro p e rtie s d e te rio rate .
S lo w ly le a kin g a ir (e.g. due to a nail
in th e tire ) may cause dam age to
th e tire su ch as tread se p a ra tio n .
R eg u la r tire p ressure ch e cks at in ­
te rva ls o f no m ore than 14 days are
th e re fo re essential. For th e tire
p ressure checks, keep in m ind th a t
h o t tire s sh o w h ig h e r pressure than
c o ld tires. See tire p ressure ch a rt
on last page.
S h o u ld th e tire p ressure decrease
c o n s ta n tly , ch e c k w h e th e r fo re ig n
o b je c ts have p e n e tra te d th e tire o r if
rim o r valve a llo w th e a ir to leak.
T h o ro u g h ly clean th e in n e r side of
th e w heels any tim e you rotate the
w h e e ls o r w ash ve h ic le underside.
D ented o r b e n t rim s cause tire
p ressure loss and dam age to the
tire beads. For th is reason, check
rim s fo r dam age at re g u la r intervals.
The rim fla n g e s m u st be checked
fo r w e a r b e fo re a tire is m ounted.
