Sealed and dust-protected levelling knob.
High quality, sealed design that can be used in all weather.
Friction braked, endless rotation.
Multiplication factor 100 for distance measuring.
Use
1.
Set up the tripod and fix the levelling instrument with the tripod screw.
2.
Adjust the tripod legs so that the tripod head is more or less horizontal. Centre the spirit level
bubble with the levelling knob. See below.
Direction setting and focusing
1.
Point the levelling instrument towards a light background, or hold a sheet of white paper in front of
the objective. Turn the veiwfinder until the cross hairs are black and fully in focus.
2.
Align, with the help of the sight, the levelling instrument to the levelling staff.
3.
Look through the viewfinder and turn the focusing knob until the levelling staff can be seen in sharp
focus.
4.
Turn the know to adjust the horizontal plane until the vertical line in the cross hairs runs along the
middle of the levelling staff.
Height measuring
Read off the levelling staff scale in front of the middle, horizontal cross hair line. On staffs with metric
scales you usually read off to a precision of 1 mm. The height reading in the figure is 3.456 m.

Distance measuring
Read off the levelling staff scale opposite the top and bottom cross hair line. The differential height
multiplied by 100 is the distance from the instrument to the levelling staff. In the above figure the heights
read off are 3.601 m and 3.309 m. The distance from the instrument is therefore (3.601 m
–
3.309 m) x 100 = 29.2 m.
