OPERATION
Use
The stud detector localises the edges of concealed studs by means of a sensor.
The product is intended to be used on dry inner walls.
The detection depth is affected by the thickness, density and moisture content of the wall material.
The product does not work on materials with irregular densities, such as clinker, carpets, wallpaper
with metal fibres or damp material (newly painted/wallpapered walls must be allowed to dry for at
least 1 week).
Inserting the battery
1.
Open the battery compartment.
2.
Insert a 9 V battery with the terminals first and the correct polarity.
3.
Replace the battery cover.
Calibration and detection
1.
Switch off the product and place it flat against the wall.
2.
Press in the power switch to detect studs.
3.
Move the product slowly to the left or right along the wall. When the product reaches a stud more of
the red LEDs come on.
4.
When the middle green LED comes on and an audio signal is heard, the product is opposite the
edge of a stud Mark this point.
5.
Continue detecting in the same direction until the LEDs go off. Move the product slowly back along
the same line to localise the other edge of the stud.
6.
Mark this point as well. The centre of the stud lies in the middle of the two markings.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
Probable cause
Action
No indication.
No studs in the vicinity.
Move the product a few
decimetres to the left or right and
repeat the search.
The LEDs flash and the audio
signal keeps repeating.
Calibration was done over a stud. Release the power switch, move
the prodoct a few decimetres,
press in the power swtich as start
again.
The search was started over a
stud or a part of the wall with a
high density.
On rough surfaces, place a piece
of cardboard on the wall so that
the detector slides more easily.
The product is not being held flat
against the wall.
Always hold and move the
product parallel to the surface.
The product was tilted or lifted
during the search.
Always hold and move the
product parallel to the surface.
Indications at several places.
Objects other than studs
detected.
Redo the search by moving the
stud detector over the surface
from the opposite direction.
