Camera and Cable Installation
Camera and Cable Installation
READ AND UNDERSTAND THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING THE CAMERAS
AND CABLES.
A camera should be mounted in a way that gives the driver the best possible view of the area.
Follow all Lockout/Tagout instructions during installation of cameras and their equipment.
1. Follow the camera mounting location information on
Pages 36-40
.
Make sure the camera will not
obstruct any lights or any part of the driver's view.
NOTE:
If the provided bracket does not allow for
positioning the camera in the best location, see
Page 41
for bracket options available through
McNeilus
Parts at 888-686-7278 or www.streetsmartparts.com
. If you require a different bracket for the camera,
use that bracket as a template for drilling the holes.
2. Position the camera where it will be mounted and temporarily attach it using the bracket.
In the steps below, the cable is routed from the front of the vehicle starting at the monitor. Follow existing wiring,
such as the chassis or body harness. Route the cable loosely through the vehicle in case you run into an issue
that would cause you to need to reroute the cable.
3. Route the cable from the monitor in the cab to the exterior of the vehicle. You may need to drill a 1 to 1-1/2
inch hole in the cab wall for the cable to exit the cab. Use a grommet to protect the wires (grommet not
provided).
4. Determine the best route for the cable based on the obstacles in your path to the camera. Route the cable
to the camera using any conduit channels available on the vehicle's body, attach to the existing wiring
harness.
5. For any camera that is mounted on a moving part such as the tailgate or an arm, make sure there is enough
slack to allow for the intended movement, but not so much that would allow the cable to snag on branches,
etc.
6. Before securing the cable or mounting the camera, connect the cable to the monitor and to the camera and
check the system's functionality.
7. If the monitor and camera function correctly, use the mounting bracket on the camera as a template to mark
where to drill holes to permanently mount the camera. Verify the area being drilled into is clear of all wires or
other items. Drill the holes.
8. Secure the camera mounting bracket with the appropriate hardware. Hardware is not provided.
9. Align the camera so that it gives the driver the best possible view of the area.
10. Secure the cable. Refer to the tips on installing the cable.
11. Repeat these steps for all additional cameras on the vehicle.
Cable Installation Tips:
• Route the cable where it is protected from road debris and overhead objects
• Do not attach the cable to moving vehicle parts
•
Keep the cable at least 12 inches away from any significant source of heat
• Secure the cable so that vibration from the vehicle does not loosen it. Tie down the cable approximately
every 18 inches.
• If you have excess cable, do not loop it too tightly and
avoid crimping it
• If the cable is exposed to the environment, the connectors must be weatherproofed; use the boots
provided on the cable for weatherproofing. Do
not
use electrical tape, slit plastic conduit, or silicon as
weatherproofing.
NOTE:
During routine maintenance, check the cables, monitor, cameras, and wiring for potential trouble areas,
such as tearing or fraying before they result in a system failure.
