Operation
Uncoil the cord and plug heater into 120 Volt,
60 Hz. electrical outlet. Set power selector knob to
the desired position (see Fig. A):
1.
Off Position:
only pilot light is on.
2.
Low Setting:
for one element and fan
operation.
3.
High Watt Setting:
For both elements and
fan operation.
Note: Only one quartz tube glows at the Low
setting. Both tubes glow at the High setting.
Starting Heater -
Turn temperature control
knob to the right (clockwise) as far as it will go.
Leave at this setting until the room has reached
the desired temperature then turn the knob to the
left until the heater turns off. This is your ideal
setting. The heater will start automatically when
the room temperature drops below this setting and
will turn off once the set temperature is reached.
Warning:
The FreezeGuard
®
feature does not
insure the area to be heated will not freeze- only that
the unit will operate before freezing temperatures are
reached. No FreezeGuard protection is afforded in the
event of a power failure.
Note:
Keep this all sides of this heater away from
walls or objects..
ALSO:
When unit is warming up,
the heating elements make a slight vibrating
sound. This is normal.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
When using electrical appliances, basic
precautions should always be followed to
reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and
injury to persons, including the following:

Read all instructions before using
this heater.
2.
This heater is hot when in use. To avoid
burns, do not let bare skin touch hot
surfaces. If provided, use handles when
moving this heater. Keep combustible
materials, such as furniture, pillows,
bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains at
least 3 feet (0.9m) from the front of the heater
and keep them away from the sides and rear.

Extreme caution is necessary when any
heater is used by or near children or invalids
and whenever the heater is left operating and
unattended.
4.
Always unplug heater when not in use.
5.
Do not operate any heater with a
damaged cord or plug or after the heater
malfunctions, has been dropped or damaged
in any manner. Return heater to W.B. Marvin
Manufacturing Co. for examination, electrical
or mechanical adjustment, or repair. (See the
section “For Repairs” on the back cover)
6.
Do not use outdoors.
7.
This heater is not intended for use in
bathrooms, laundry areas and similar indoor
locations. Never locate heater where it may
fall into a bathtub or other water container.
8.
Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not
cover cord with throw rugs, runners, or the
like. Arrange cord away from traffic area and
where it will not be tripped over.
9.
To disconnect heater, turn controls to
off, then remove plug from outlet.
10. Connect to properly grounded
outlet only.
11. Do not insert or allow foreign objects to
enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as
this may cause an electric shock or fire, or
damage the heater.
12. To prevent a possible fire, do not block
air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not
use on soft surfaces, like a bed, where
openings may become blocked.
13. A heater has hot and arcing or sparking
parts inside. Do not use it in areas where
gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are
used or stored.
14. Use this heater only as described in this
manual. Any other use not recommended by
the manufacturer may cause fire, electric
shock, or injury to persons.
15. Avoid the use of an extension cord
because the extension cord may overheat and
cause a risk of fire. However, if you have to
use an extension cord, the cord shall be No.
14 AWG minimum size and rated not less
than 1875 watts.
16. The wire guard is an important safety
feature and must be securely closed during
operation or for storage. Failure to secure the
guard may result in injury and / or damage to
this unit.
THIS PRODUCT IS EQUIPPED WITH A POLARIZED A.C.
(Altnernating Current) PLUG (a plug having one blade
wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power
outlet only one way. Match wide blade of plug to wide
slot. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert
the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the
plug should still fail to fit, contact an electrician to
replace the obsolete outlet.
DO NOT DEFEAT THE
PURPOSE OF THIS POLARIZED PLUG.

This model heater features an exclusive,
replaceable heating element system
(patent pending). In the event that a
heating element in this heater should
break, burn-out or become inefficient, you
can purchase replacement elements.

REPLACING
ELEMENTS:
1. Open Guard
Unplug heater from outlet and fully insert
electrical plug into the slots located on the
right side of the guard. (NOTE: some
models may have a screw to remove from
the slots first.) (see Fig B) This will unlock
the guard. Next, remove plug from the
slots to allow the guard to swing open.
2. Remove old element
(Be sure element has cooled before
performing this step)
Grasp element near the top of the heater
and apply sufficient downward pressure
to disengage and remove the element
from the upper socket. (see Fig C)
3. Install new element
Insert either end of the element into the
bottom socket. While applying downward
pressure, guide other end of element into
corresponding socket at the top of the
heater.
4. Close guard and pull on it to
insure it is locked in place
(Replace screw if necessary.)

TROUBLE SHOOTING
If this heater shuts off unexpectedly:
1. Make sure heater is plugged in, then set the
Power Selector Knob to Low or High ; and the
Temperature Control Knob to “High” (see Fig A)
(see “Starting Heater” under Operating
Instructions).
If heater stills fails to
operate, proceed to steps 2 through 7.
2. Unplug heater and allow to cool.
3. Make sure the front of the heater is not
blocked, covered, or close to any other objects.
Also, do not sit, or allow a large pet to sit, too
close to the heater - this could also cause the
heater to overheat.
4. Check to see if the heater guard or reflector
is dirty. This could cause the heater to distribute
heat poorly - ultimately causing it to overheat.

5. Locate the Reset Plunger which is on
the top of the heater in the center near
the front edge.
(See FIG. A to the left)
6. Reset Your Heater’s shut off switch. Press the
reset plunger down until you feel or hear the
switch “click.”

FreezeGuard
®
- Setting the Temperature
Control Knob to FreezeGuard will automatically
cause the unit to turn on before the room
temperature reaches freezing.
Power Indicator Light
- Cautions that
your unit is plugged into an electric outlet.
When light is “On” heater will turn on and off
based on thermostat setting.
Tip Over Switch
- Your heater is designed to
automatically shut off when tipped forward or
backward. When returned to normal upright
position heater will automatically operate
normally again.
Safety Guard Latch -
This heater is
equipped with a special patented guard locking
device. During normal operation, the guard
should be closed and locked in position.
However, for cleaning or heating element
replacement it will be necessary to open the
guard.
Safety Thermal Sensor
- This model
features an overheat sensor. If the heater gets
excessively hot from a tip over or from being
covered by clothing, etc. the overheat sensor
will shut-off the heater. The heater
MUST
THEN BE RESET
before it will operate again.
Follow instructions at right to reset your heater.
