Field Marshall Tracking Receiver
The Quiet One
™
When you turn on your
Digital Field Marshall
, you’ll notice the
quietness immediately. You usually won’t turn it up as loud as
your old receiver because you don’t have to. While other
receivers are producing lots of noise, the new Field Marshall is
producing more signal.
How does the digital Field Marshall’s lower nois e translate int o bett er range? Well,
the ans wer is that with all recei vers it’s t he noise floor of the rec eiver that ultimatel y
limits its range. Any recei ver c an amplif y a weak signal from a faraway transmitt er.
The pr oblem is t hat when you t urn up the volume to amplif y t hat weak signal the
noise j ust gets l ouder as well and c ontinues to overpower t he signal* . That’s why
the differ ence bet ween a medi ocre rec eiver and t he bes t recei ver is sophisticat ed
filtering and expensi ve el ectronic devices that mini mize noise. It t urns out that’s t he
only way to incr ease the range of a rec ei ver. O ther recei vers si mpl y make a l oud
sound, but loudness al one means nothi ng in ter ms of range.
* T he technical term for the sensitivity of a receiver, or its ability to discern weak signals, is
the signal-to-noise ratio. A higher signal-to-noise ratio translates directly into better sensi-
tivity and range, regardless of how loud the actual output of the receiver is.
“The Quiet One” comes through with a more effective and pleasant
tracking experience.
