VFS & DBX Series Vent Free Fireplaces

FIREPLACE INSTALLATION

Ensure that minimum clearances shown in 

Figures 4 and 5 

are maintained. Left and right clearances 

are determined when facing the front of the firebox.
Follow these instructions carefully to ensure safe installation. Failure to follow these requirements 

may create a fire hazard.

Sidewall Clearances

 — The clearance from the inside of the appliance to any combustible adjacent 

wall should not be less than 9" for the DBX4C/4VFSC and 3VFSC.

Ceiling Clearance 

— The ceiling must be at least 4" from the top of the firebox opening.

Back Wall Clearance 

— The appliance may be placed against a combustible back wall.

Floor Clearance 

— The fireplace may be installed directly on a combustible floor or a raised platform 

of an appropriate height. Do not place fireplace on carpeting, vinyl, tile or other soft floor coverings. It 

may, however, be placed on flat wood, plywood, particle board or other hard surfaces. Be sure fireplace 

rests on a solid continuous floor or platform with appropriate framing for support and so that no cold 

air can enter from under the firebox. 

Mantel clearances 

— The canopy supplied with the unit must be installed. If a combustible mantel 

is installed. It must meet the clearance requirements detailed in 

Figure 5.
