Remark
The manoeuvre ends when the set PEEP is reached (see Set ven -
tilation parameters).

Performing the PEEPfinder manoeuvre (inspiratory and
expiratory)
The ventilation alarms are disabled during the manoeuvre, and the ventilation
mode window indicates “PEEPfinder”.
The PEEPfinder can be started directly or, alternatively, via the optional pre-oxy -
genation function with an adjustable oxygen concentration.

Upon starting the PEEPfinder, the system first determines the respiratory situ -
ation (leakage, trapping, ...) and initiates a prolonged expiratory phase if needed.

Then, the quasi-static manoeuvre begins at the set starting point and proceeds
as configured (inspiration only, expiration only, or inspiration and expiration).

For the duration of the recruitment, between inspiration and expiration, the
valves are closed. At the end of the recruitment time, the expiratory valve
opens and the expiratory phase begins (no bias flow (Byflow) is added).

Upon termination of the PEEPfinder manoeuvre, ventilation continues.
Remark
If, during the manoeuvre, a situation occurs which makes it impos-
sible to determine a valid pressure situation (onset of spontaneous
breathing, high leakage, reaching the limit volume, high recruitment
effects, ...), the manoeuvre will be aborted and the graphic and
numeric evaluation will not be displayed.
Remark
The manoeuvre can be terminated prematurely at any time with
the “Stop” and “Enter” buttons.
