TROUBLESHOOTING
ENGINE
WILL
NOT
START
Possible Cause
Correction
1. Electric starting:
check battery
Battery discharged.
Recharge battery.
Fuel valve OFF.
Move lever to ON.
Choke OPEN.
Move lever to CLOSE
unless engine is warm.
2. Check control positions
Engine switch OFF.
Turn engine switch to
ON.
Out of fuel.
Refuel
3. Check fuel.
Bad fuel; engine stored
without treating or draining
gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline.
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor. Refuel with
fresh gasoline.
Spark plugs faulty, fouled,
or improperly gapped.
Gap, or replace spark
plugs.
4. Remove and inspect
spark plugs.
Spark plugs wet with fuel
(flooded engine).
Dry and reinstall spark
plugs. Start engine with
throttle lever in FAST
position.
5. Take engine to an
authorized
servicing
dealer, or refer to
manual.
Fuel
filter
clogged,
carburetor
malfunction,
ignition malfunction, valve
stuck, etc.
Replace or repair faulty
components
as
necessary.
ENGINE LACKS POWER
Possible Cause
Correction
1. Check air filter
Filter element(s) clogged. Clean or replace filter
element(s).
Out of fuel.
Refuel
2. Check fuel.
Bad fuel; engine stored
without treating or draining
gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline.
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor. Refuel with
fresh gasoline.
3. Take engine to an
authorized
servicing
dealer, or refer to
manual.
