Overheating
If the maximum operating temperature is exceeded, the lamp is automatically switched off and
the red LED 5 lights up. The fan, however, continues to run. After the unit has cooled off
sufficiently, the red LED will go out and the lamp can be ignited again. Overheating can occur
from the obstruction of ventilation slots or high ambient temperatures. The rotation of the fan is
also monitored electronically.
Repairs and Service
Always disconnect the power cord before opening up the unit. Do not attempt any repairs
except exchanging the lamp-module, see Section 4.3. Refer all other repairs to an authorized
service center.
High voltages are present inside unit.

Field of Application (Intended Usage)
The UV Wand System UVC 97034 is suitable for the curing of Loctite
®
UV Products at industrial
workstations such as in shops, laboratories, and automated assembly lines.
The radiation spectrum and performance provided is especially matched to the requirements of
UV curing adhesives and coating materials. In this manner, the curing of products to a dry and
non-sticky surface is possible in a short time.
The UV Wand System contains controller, UV shutter, starter, timer, cooling fan, and the lamp
module. The opening times of the shutter are adjustable whereby exact and repeatable curing
results can be obtained. It also contains the power supply unit and all controls for operating
the system.
With proper operation of the UV shutter, the UV lamp is effectively shielded so that no danger to
operating personnel occurs.
The light-proof design of the UV Wand System ensures a high degree of occupational safety.
The shutter is driven by a stepper motor. High reliability and short exposure times, shortest time
is 50 ms, are the benefits of this design.
With all UV lamps, a loss of power is given by the consumption of the electrodes and the fall-out
of the burned tungsten at the lamp envelope.
The DC powered UV lamps are comparatively stable as opposed to AC powered UV lamps.
Because the electrode flow is uniform, and therefore the electrode consumption is small, the fall-
out of the burned mercury at the lamp is also reduced. Furthermore, the electronics of the UV
Wand System controls the performance of the lamp to 200 W ±1%. This control reduces the
loss of power.
