INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Install WIFI Extender in a dry indoor space that will meet Operating environment range specifications (chapter 9.6 on page 7). Follow the installation procedure as specified in this chapter.
WARNING:
EXPOSURE TO RADIO FREQUENCY RADIATION!
63 CM MINIMUM DISTANCE HAS TO BE MAINTAINED BETWEEN WIFI EXTENDER AND THE OCCUPATIONAL USER AND 142 CM TO GENERAL PUBLIC.
WIFI Extender is very powerful WIFI access point so you should not install to many units on a vessel.
As a general rule for GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) build vessels you can use following rule:
20-30 m vessel:
1-3 WIFI Extenders
30-40 m vessel:
3-5 WIFI Extender
40+ m vessel:
5+ WIFI Extenders
Number of WIFI Extenders also depends on the vessel type, deck and cabin quantity etc. The above given numbers are for motor yachts. For steel, aluminium or carbon build vessel you will
probably need larger number of WIFI Extenders but exact number is very hard to calculate in advance.
Always try to install WIFI Extenders in the locations with minimum quantity of metal parts or cables following rules in the following chapters.
12.1.
How to use WIFI Extender
WIFI Extender is not just a simple WIFI access point. It can be used as a backbone for complete network infrastructure installation.
Each Ethernet (LAN) port on WIFI Extender can be programmed to become part of
Vessel Network
of your choice.
For example, if you are connecting multiple WIFI Extenders to Yacht Router Standard you will have three
Vessel Networks
(e.g. Owner, Guest, Crew) that will be spread around your vessel
through all WIFI Extenders. Each
Vessel Network
has WIFI and a cable (LAN) component. It means, for example, that you can connect your laptop computer to
Vessel Network
1
(Owner
network) via WIFI or via LAN cable plugged into
Vessel Network 1
port on Yacht Router. But you can also use any LAN port on any WIFI Extender to connect to
Vessel Network 1
. All you have
to do is to configure LAN port on WIFI Extender to become part of
Vessel Network 1
. Described feature can be very useful when you want to connect, for example, LAN socket in owner’s
cabin to
Vessel Network 1
(Owner network).
To reconfigure ports on WIFI Extender you will have to contact Locomarine Support or your local dealer.
Each WIFI Extender will transmit all Vessel Networks.
For example, if you connect multiple WIFI Extenders to Yacht Router Standard, each WIFI Extender will transmit three
Vessel Networks
(e.g. Owner, Guest, Crew). For end-user it means that
he will have uninterrupted connection all around the vessel no matter which Vessel Network he is connected to.
